Frequently Asked Questions

What follows are some of the most frequently asked questions we hear.

Do I have to align myself to one particular wholesaler?

No. We have a strap line “the power of independence”. This means you are free to run your business the way you want to, which includes staying with your preferred Wholesaler. We merely supply you with the means to compete by increasing your buying power, and therefore your profit margin.

How do you do that?

We take the collective spend of our members circa £400m and use as leverage when negotiating with suppliers and manufacturers. That’s why we’re able to supply our members with exceptional pricing and services.

Do I have to take your marketing material?

The marketing tools we produce are specifically and exclusively designed for our members.  A full 12 month programme is produced to run from January to December. We recognise that one size does not fit all and we are flexible depending on your business model, and your chosen marketplace.

Do I have to use your back-office system?

No – we’re in the business of helping you to improve your profit margins, not tie you into a computer ordering system.

Members are free to use any of the industry recognised systems, or a bespoke system, as we produce product files and price files to accommodate any system – it comes as part of your membership. Whatever system you use, we will be able to work with you to allow you to make the most out of our publications.

How much does it cost?

That depends on which membership is relevant to your business.

If you are a smaller dealer, or a start-up business (minimum turnover £36,000 per annum), then our Evolve membership is ideal for you, and costs as little as £75 per quarter. One of our Business Development Managers will be happy to give you more details of this and full shareholder membership.

You are a co-operative group– so how does that benefit me?

This means full shareholder members own the group equally.

We have no beneficial shareholders, therefore all rebates are returned in full and within seven days of collection, and any year-end surplus also goes back to the members. “The purpose of a co-operative is not to make profit for itself, but to improve each member’s situation”. That’s the philosophy we operate by.

Do I get regional exclusivity?

Not quite. Although along with our co-operative philosophy, we operate a co-operation philosophy.

If a new member application is received, and there is a potential clash of territory, the incumbent member will have a say as to whether the region can support another Nemo member.

Once I’ve decided which membership is best for me, how long does it take to become a member?

Naturally there’s a little form filling – nothing too onerous, then we can have you up and running, and enjoying NEMO membership in as little as ten working days.

Do I get an opportunity to meet other members?

Absolutely. We have four member meetings per year, and an annual conference. There are plenty of opportunities to discuss industry issues, or exchange ideas with like-minded people in a convivial atmosphere.

What is the contract period?

At Nemo, we don’t believe in binding you to a lengthy contract, because we’re confident when you join Nemo, and you get a flavour of everything we do and the services we provide to support you and help you grow, that you simply won’t want to leave.

Our standard membership contract period is a minimum of three months.
