| ‘Sailing the Winds of Change’ at Nemo’s 2009 Conference |
|
The theme at the Nemo conference – Sailing the Winds of Change was very fitting for the Southampton location and the current market conditions. Held at The Grand Harbour Hotel last weekend the conference was very well supported by over 40 suppliers and in Nemo’s typical style, its membership.
Over 30 golfers took to the tee on Friday morning in preparation for the business session which was followed by two guest speakers. The first, Phil Jones from Brother UK, entertained and informed the audience of suppliers and members of the benefits and business usage of social networking, through Blogging and sites such as Twitter. Next was Robbie Glen, a former Scottish prison Governor, who with his unique dry Scottish wit, amused everybody with tales from his service.
The supplier exhibition was held on Saturday morning, bursting with members in search of new products, services and supplier support to help their businesses through these challenging times. They were further encouraged by the attendance of newly contracted suppliers such as Beta Distribution, Elba, Sinclairs, Skyline Print Management, Snopake and Magic Whiteboard, who appeared on the TV series Dragon’s Den.
To lighten the atmosphere Nemo have traditionally presented an award for any supplier that causes some attention during the exhibition setup. So the Drama Queen Award was presented to David Soderberg from Robinson Young who accepted his prize in the spirit it was intended!
Saturday night was gala night, which acknowledged supplier and member recognition. The following supplier awards were presented for those who showed exceptional product support, representation, product quality and overall service.
Gold Supplier - Brother UK Silver Supplier - Durable UK Bronze Supplier - William Jones Clifton Ltd
Spicers received the Distributor award and the Special Recognition award went to Antalis.
In the member’s category, Ballymena were noted for their EOS % Growth, as were George Rose for their EOS Cash Growth. The Office Style % Growth prize was given to JL Group, with Office Equipment Centre accepting the Office Style Cash Growth award.
During the weekend the group raised £1,800, which will be equally split between BOSS Benevolent Fund and the Chairman’s nominated charity - Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. |
