Over 120 trekkers, climbing The Lakes, at the start of November. And each and everyone would do it again.
Last weekend, on the 2nd November, the Nemo and BOSS team, next to a host of other teams from the OP industry scaled the mountain ranges of the Lakes.
The BOSS team took on the famous Langdale Pikes, one of the tougher peaks, raising money for a very worthwhile charity.
Starting off at 9am, the team drove to the bottom of the Pikes, and embarked on their 7 hour trek. The team was blessed with sunshine breaking through the clouds which allowed for some stunning photos.
Reaching the peak after a sharp vertical climb, the team basked in the panoramic views whilst displaying their ICR banner.
As if that wasn’t enough of a challenge, the team then decided to scramble, literally, that bit further, up the Pike of Stickle to finish off the walk and see the magnificent views awaiting them at the top.
A well deserved drink
Welcoming the trekkers as they reached the bottom was a well deserved drink (or two) followed by a fabulous three course meal at The Swan Hotel on the Friday night.
The night was started by Graeme Chapman MBE and his team of organisers hosting a charity auction.
After Graeme, Professor Paul Workman, the ICR CEO and President, gave an insight into the working of ICR and how valuable the Climb of Life is to them, explaining how the funds raised help.
The Climb of Life
Now in its 31st year, the Climb of Life’s challenge is to raise enough in 2018 to burst through the £1 million that it has raised for ICR over the last years.
The 2018 total raised was £103,215, making it one of the most successful years for the fundraiser, topping last years pledge, to the delight of all the weary walkers gathered in the hotel.
The ICR is one of the most successful organisations in the world for making discoveries that help create drugs to defeat cancer.
One third of the UK population will suffer with Cancer at some point, which is why the ICR is committed to finding cures.
